What are some of your careers and tell me how you enjoy them please. I think I've decided on finance as my choice, but I'd like to hear from everyone. Especially higher ranks who can tell me there responsibilities.

  1. In the Air Force there are fewer and fewer finance troops due to the recent downsizing of the force. This means it'll be harder to get promoted later on. Why not try to be an Electrician? Only God and Electricians can make light, and we can take it away! I love my job, I've been doing it for over ten years now. Every body uses electricity so you'll always be needed.

As an electrician your Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) will be 3E0X1. You'll be responsible for installing, planning, repairing, performing maintenance on high voltage and low voltage distribution systems. You will also be responsible for repairing fire alarm systems and air field lighting systems. Talk to your local recruiter for more details.

  2. The post above me made me laugh.  He's right everyone needs electricity. :)  There really aren't too many Finance people like it was said before.

I am a Network Infrastructure Technician.  I deal with routers/switches/networking in general.  I love my job.  Not only is there so many different types of equipment we can work on.. (base comm, tech control, help desk, IA, AWACS, Tactical Comm, etc) but this is a job that converts well on the outside.  Networking technicians are making good money on the outside in the civilian world. (Good news for you, if you decide not to make the AF a career and get out after your first enlistment)

Good luck in whatever decision you make!
