Careers that work with animals???

Question

i love animals (particularly horses) and i always have known that i'd want to work with them when i got older and finished school. when i was very young i wanted to be a vet and the thought still crosses my mind every now and then however i'd rather work with animals without having to perform surgery. so i'd like to know, what should i major in to get a career that would allow me to work with animals?

BTW - i would actually prefer to work with wild animals than domesticated pets

Other than obvious vet (which you are not keen on), there are jobs in research or animal handling (eg; Animal Farms, zoos, Seaworlds, Parks, Sporting etc..).

There are many avenues you can take.

I would start with a trip to the local zoo, or to a seaworld etc.. and chat to the animal handlers who work there. You may find that not all need to be qualified vets, some do Marine Biology or basic animal handling courses through local colleges. Perhaps they have scholoarships?

If you like horses, what about starting out working in stables as a strapper at your local Race Horse Jockey Club? Or find out about summer camp (looking after the animals) or ranch handling work?

One option for you would be take up zoology, join a zoo and be a care taker for the animals there. But if would like some adventure why not contact organizations which go in for research in wildlife. This would help not in getting close to animals but also discovering facts about them. You could really contribute to the meager knowledge that we have about animals...

study zoology. you can work with the wild animals and eventually specialise in certain fields if you like.

i love all animals red, but horses aren't in danger, polar bears are, help them and travel in the meantime
