Carey Price blocks 33 to lift Montreal Canadiens against Ottawa Senators 2-1 -NHL Match Update
Carey Price had yet another strong performance to help lead Montreal to their fourth straight win as the Canadiens edged the Ottawa Senators, 2-1, on Friday, November 4, 2011, at the sold-out Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Even though Price faced more shots, 34-26, than his counterpart in the Ottawa Senators net, Craig Anderson, he still managed to block 33 and only let one through throughout the 60 minute contest.
Montreal had five days before their next matchup, ending the month of October with a win against the Boston Bruins, but the Canadiens did not plan at losing no matter how long of a weekend they enjoyed.
"It was important to come out and have a good night", Price said. "When you sit around for a week, you have a lot of time to dwell on three wins, so I'm glad our guys knew to come in focused and reset”.
For Montreal Canadiens head coach, Jacques Martin, Price is a irreplaceable asset and believes that he will be the key for them in future matchups.
"We got some key saves from the goalie at times", Martin said. "I thought our penalty killers did a good job. They worked hard and we know that (Ottawa) has great net presence and they move the puck around very well".
Both teams remaining scoreless in the first period and failed to capitalise on each of their power play opportunities. Montreal’s young defenseman, P.K. Subban was booked at the 2:54 mark for tripping while Ottawa’s, Erik Karlsson, faced the music for delaying
the game with less than six minutes remaining in the first.
Erik Cole added the first goal of the night followed by Andrei Kostitsyn exactly three minutes later for his fourth of the season.
Milan Michalek was penalised with less than a minute remaining in the second, a penalty which carried over into the third period against Ottawa, but Zack Smith still managed to score shorthanded in the opening minute to bring the Senators within reach of
the score down by one.
Both goalies entered lockdown mode for the next 19 minutes as both teams failed to score on any of their attempts, resulting in the Canadiens victory.
