Carey Price blocks all 25 as Montreal Canadiens shutout Carolina Hurricanes 4-0 -NHL Match Update
Carey Price had another spectacular performance as he blocked all 25 Carolina shots on his net as the Montreal Canadiens kept scoring to shutout the Hurricanes, 4-0, Wednesday night, November 16, 2011, at the sold-out Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Montreal’s young goalie, Carey Price, earned his first shutout of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season in his 16th start thus far.
His counterpart in the Carolina net, Cam Ward, was outshot with 36 attempts by the Canadiens on him and fell short on four to allow the home team to win their third match in the past four contests.
The Canadiens are currently tied with the New Jersey Devils for the eighth number spot in the Eastern Conference with 19 points and hope to keep this performance up in order to advance to the higher ranks.
"Obviously with the start that we had, we've battled really hard since then", said Price. "We don't want to stop at eighth place -- we want to keep climbing".
Mike Cammalleri got the first of the night and his fourth of the season with a powerful slap shot from Ward’s left side nearly midway through the opening period while Yannick Weber added one of his own while capitalising on a power play opportunity with
less than five minutes left to go.
P.K. Subban took control of the puck and scored his first of the season to open up the record while Travis Moen made the insurance shot with less than a minute to go in the second period with an amazing backhander behind the net which hit Ward’s left leg
pad and slide into the net.
Subban might not have scored ever since the season kicked off in early October, but according to him, it is not a concern since his part is to play defence on the team.
"My job is to play defence, so I'm not too worried about the offensive side of the game", Subban said. "I think that will come, but for me it's about playing solid. Especially if I'm going to be playing a lot of minutes when we have guys out of the line-up,
the coach is going to be relying on me to play defence, so I can't be worrying about whether I'm scoring or not".
Montreal has the next in New York against the Islanders on Thursday while Hurricanes face the Sabres at home on Friday.
