Caribbean Gem takes away the Hall Green Bags It Runners Up Stakes from the two joint favourites of the race on 2nd January
B Hall trained, Caribbean Gem, grabbed the Grade A1 Hall Green Bags It Runners Up Stakes held at Hall Green on 2nd January. The son of Hades Rocket out of Silky Princess born in May 2009, broke from the fourth stall, fell into
a high gear and took charge of the lot till the end of the race. This he accomplished in 29.52 seconds in the 480 metre long race.
Leaping in to fill the second position was A Jenkins trained, Ballymac Hi, who stayed pretty prominent throughout the track, but weakened in the final yards of the race to finish 2 ¼ lengths adrift form the winner. The 2 to 1 joint favourite clocked
the track distance in 29.70 seconds.
Pat Sallis saw his trainee, Rock It Ronan, as the clear third place finisher of the race. He did gear up later, but got obstructed while racing second, and after that he couldn’t get hold of the speed that he had maintained before. He was then thrown
back by 3 ½ lengths, as he covered the track in 29.76 seconds.
Pat Salli’s next entry got him the fourth position, as both kennel mates finished the race one after the other. Rock It Elite, started off speedily, but met a crowded fate towards the line which forced him to finish fourth. He covered the track distance
in 30.04 seconds.
The other 2 to 1 joint favourite of the race, Excellent Boy, took off slowly and then got obstructed quite intensely which led to his inability to get any worthwhile position and ended up finishing the race in 30.24 seconds.
The hound who finished last was G Ballentine’s, Ballymac Orchard. He kicked off things brightly, but got jammed in traffic and never got any momentum going, as he finished 5 ¾ lengths behind the winner, with the finishing time of 30.70 seconds.

The 8 to 1 Caribbean Gem, entered by B Hall defeated the two favourites fair and square to assert his authority over the rest of the field. It proves his ability for future races and the bright scope because of the potential in store.
