Caribbean Series hopes to bring prosperity to Puerto Rico
There are four national teams involved in this year’s Caribbean Series and they will battle each other for 6 days until a lone winner is declared under the radiant sky of Puerto Rico. The competition embodies the athletes of North and South America, and
will kick off soon, bringing together Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic for the challenge.
The players from all over the world will most likely participate. This will mark the year with one of the most energetic events to translate outside the United States. The Caribbean mix will offer a divergent look at the game that will be played in Puerto
Rico as a bid to secure the game’s status in the region. Major League Baseball’s Vice President of International Baseball Operations, Lou Melendez, was able to strengthen the support for Puerto Rico’s hosting rights by offering a few statements in relevance
to the series.
"The attendance for the finals in Puerto Rico has been very good, and the playoff games were very good, and those are both great signs leading into the Caribbean Series," Melendez said. "The rivalry and intense nationalism are what lead to the intensity
of these games. It's the fuel for the fire of the Caribbean Series, but it's an event, so it's also about providing good baseball with entertainment fans can engage in. We all hope for success in Puerto Rico."
The Vice President also believes that this challenge will likely poke at Puerto Rico’s ability to support the series and drive it through with success. The country has been struggling to muster up its support for the winter domestic league. However, some
club owners are unable to finance clubs.
There are rising crop of stars coming out of the Dominican Republic, which is diverting the attention away from Puerto Rico. Furthermore, athletes are moving towards other games like basketball. This will surely be a challenge for the Puerto Ricans, who
will look to push the baseball sport up to the top.
