Caribbean T20, Trinidad & Tobago win inaugural match by 9 wickets

A sparse crowd crowed witnessed a fairly one-sided opening match led by Trinidad and Tobago’s disciplined bowling supported by a brilliant innings from opening batsman, Barath, taking Trinidad and Tobago home with plenty of overs to spare.
Disciplined bowling performances from the seamers of T & T troubled the inexperienced batting line-up of Canada with continuous variations in their line and length restricting them to a below par 110 for 8 in 20 overs. Canada did not even get a single chance to trouble their strong opposition. Trinidad and Tobago’s run chase was led by the bludgeoning opener Adrian Barath to set up a nine-wicket victory in just 14.1 overs.

The batting line-up of Canada was under pressure since the beginning of the match and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Canada was five wickets down before reaching three-figures but the Canadian born Zubin Surkari took the initiative in the death overs hitting two consecutive fours and a huge six stealing 16 from a single over. Canada reached 110 for 8 at the end of their 20 overs. Trinidad and Tobago’s run chase was led by Adrian Barath's assault. He played pugnaciously remaining unbeaten on 66 from just 47 balls, including four boundaries and five massive sixes. An explosive opening combination started T&T’s chase in an aggressive manner, smashing a flurry of sweet boundaries and sixes. The partnership was worth 68 when Patel broke it with the last ball of the 8th over, clean bowling William Perkins.
Barath’s assault was then well supported by Lendl Simmons, taking Trinidad & Tobago to 111 in just 14.1 overs. Trinidad and Tobago will now face off Leewards at Birmingham on 24th July.
