Caribbean Twenty20: Wavell Hinds blames lack of experience for defeat
Jamaica captain Wavell Hinds feels lack of experience in the shortest form of cricket was the major reason behind his team’s defeat in the recently concluded Caribbean Twenty20 Cricket tournament.
“A lot of the guys were pretty much inexperienced as to how to deal with critical moments in a Twenty20 game, which is a fast-paced game and so that in itself would have let us down,” said Hinds.
Jamaica, who were the favourites to lift the trophy, finished number three in the tournament after beating Windward Islands in the third place playoff at Bridgetown on Saturday. In the semis, they faced an 8-wicket drubbing at the hands of ultimate champions
Trinidad and Tobago.
Hinds said that the side is quite disappointed for not making it to the final. He blamed limited exposure and lack of knowledge for their defeat.
“We are very disappointed,” said the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 player. “Because I thought the kind of preparations that went on before we left the shores of Jamaica would have put us in good stead and would have also given us the confidence to go out and put up
a better performance than we did.”
The aggressive left-handed batsman, who has played 166 first-class matches, has urged the authorities of Jamaica Cricket Association to establish a system to give the Jamaican players more and more opportunities to play Twenty20 cricket at home so that they
could understand what this limited form of game is about. This, according to Hinds, will help the side win the tournament in 2012.
He said that the recently concluded tournament was a learning opportunity for most of the Jamaican players. “I hope the players hold it close to their hearts and put it into their memories, so that they can use it next time,” he added further.
Hinds praised Marlon Samuels’ remarkable performance in the tournament, who finished the competition as the leading run-scorer with a tally of 253 runs at an average of over 63. He also heaped praises for medium pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Krishmar-Santokie-c71724.
“I thought a few of the guys performed really well. Santokie did a very good job and Marlon Samuels has shown that he is growing,” said Hinds.
