The Caribbean team of Mirador couldn’t live up the dream of playing in the final showdown of Club World Championship 2010. The outstanding women’s team from Turkey proved to be a detractor for Mirador and clipped semi-final victory this morning (December
20). Turkey’s Fenerbahce posted 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, and 25-18) victory over Mirador and reserved a spot in the final-encounter of Women’s Club World Championship. Turkish team gained much popularity in the tournament as they remained un-beaten up till the final
round. Fenerbahce is in good form to get hold of the title-trophy.
First set
Fenerbahce had good record of victories in the tournament. They opened the match with confident shots. Every single player of the Turkish side showed the intent of victory against Mirador. They hit the mark with early points, while Caribbean team was yet
to be on the board. At the first technical timeout, Mirador was behind Fenerbahce. However, they put up a great fight and managed to hit the equilizer at 8-all. Fenerbahce‘s side tried to find the rare gaps in Mirador’s half and attacked with Liubov Sokolova.
The Turkish squad managed to deceive Mirador’s defenders and scored points. They hit the 16-12 at the second technical timeout. The Turkish setter proved a great help for her team and perfectly complimented the hitters. Mirado added 2 more points, while Fenerbahce
moved to 20 on the score board. They continued with success and made the next stop at 23-18. Caribbean ladies threw everything in attack but couldn’t avoid the chances of defeat in first set. They lost the first-set with a margin of 4 points (21-25).
Second set
The opening-set victory defined the winning course for Fenerbahce. They followed the same strategy in following set and jumpstarted the set with 4-0 lead. The explosive hitting and better defence enabled them to raise the score to 11-6. Mirador was slightly
dragged under pressure. Their weak attack attempts created no scare for the Fenerbahce’s team. Fenerbahce kept their dominance in the game and stretched the gap to 16-9. They swiftly inched their way to the finish line. Fenerbahce closed the second set at
25-18 and attained more power with two sets in hand.
Third set
Mirador was deep down in trouble after losing two sets. They completely lost the momentum in third set. Fenerbahce influenced them from all sides and picked 8-2 lead. The Caribbean team failed to overcome the power of strong competitor. Turkish team found
the perfect rhythm and contributed quick points. Mirador could only help 15 points in third set and the team collapsed. Fenerbahce achieved success by posting 20-15 in third set, which earned them a slot in the final match of Women’s Club World Championship.
The second semi-final has yet to start in the afternoon, which will reveal the second finalist of the tournament. Italy’s Foppapedretti Bergamo and Brazilian Sollys Osasco are up for the semi-final fight. Both sides have great potential to win but it would
be bit too soon to say anything at this moment. Whoever wins in the semi-final will meet Fenerbahce in the final match.
