Caricom Steps in as Gayle-WICB Standoff Continues: News Update
The continuing standoff between former captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board (WICB) has hiked up to another level after the government heads of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) have decided to intervene in the ongoing vendetta.
The intervention comes after Chris Gayle offered some emotional comments regarding his continuous exclusion from the team and made an appeal to the Caricom governments to heed to his matter.
In a recent affair, Gayle’s request was further backed by the Guyana President, Bharrat Jagdeo, who too called out for his counterparts to bring the matter under consideration.
Jagdeo had made some strong comments for the WICB after citing the board to be operating as a private entity and that it owns cricket in West Indies.
"It comes back to who owns West Indian cricket. The Board thinks it owns West Indian cricket, my belief is that it belongs to all of us, the people of this region" added Jagdeo.
Initially, the feud between Gayle and the WICB sparked off after the West Indies coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup quarter final.
The situation became even worst after Gayle flew off to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to become part of his team Bangalore Royal Challengers from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Gibson’s annoyance took its toll since the IPL came in clash with Pakistan’s tour to West Indies, in May, this year.
As a result, the WICB opted for Gayle’s exclusion from the West Indies national squad against Pakistan’s visit to Caribbean as well as for the ongoing Test series against India.
As for now, the player’s continuous absence has brought in some senior officials of the Caribbean to bring a close to the dispute.
The Caricom Chairman Dr. Denzil Douglas has now consoled Gayle and assured that a resolution to the ongoing dispute will be bought about.
“We believe that West Indies cricket has not been one of the vehicles of which the Caribbean man today can be proud of moving himself upwards” added the Chairman.
With Caricom government officials stepping into the Caribbean cricket scenario, one may hope to see an eventual conclusion to the subject.
