Carissa Moore defeats Pauline Ado in Vans US Open of Surfing semi-finals – Surfing news
Hawaii’s Carissa Moore got the better of France’s Pauline Ado in the second semi-final of women’s Van US Open of Surfing, which continued at the Huntington Beach Pier in California, America, on Sunday July 28, 2013.
The 20-year-old Hawaiian consequently advanced into the final, where she was to face America’s Courtney Conlogue in a battle for the overall win.
Serving as the sixth of eight stops on the 2013 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Championship Tour, Vans US Open of Surfing was proving to be an ideal stage for the female surfers to move their campaign for the coveted World Title
forward.
The conditions on offer had been promising throughout the course of the event, thus allowing the contenders to put their exquisite skills and experience on their display in front of the huge crowd that had consistently shown up at the main event site.
Moore, former ASP Women’s World Champion, had plenty of reason to push herself hard during her semi-final battle against Ado. Currently sitting in No.2 position on the ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, she had a golden opportunity to move to the No.1
spot by emerging triumphant in her latest heat.
The French surfer, however, was in a solid form herself and was expected to make it really tough for her rival to get what she wanted.
As the battle for a shot at the event title got underway, Moore went through a series of average scores before locking a juicy wave and capitalising on it to post a 6.93 on the score-board. She immediately backed it up with an impressive 7.77-point ride,
thus getting to a heat-total of 14.70 points.
Ado got off to a slow start, apparently struggling to find her rhythm in the peaky one-to-three foot waves that were on offer. After a desperate hunt, she only managed to collect a 5.33 and 4.90 off her top-two waves, thus finishing with a heat-total of
10.23 points. The effort was clearly inadequate under the circumstances and consequently forced her to surrender victory to her rival.
During her post-heat interview, Ado admitted that she was disappointed with her semi-final heat, as she was unable to find good waves and failed to deliver her best.
