Carissa Moore downs Pauline Ado to enter Roxy Pro France 2011 finals
After a series of intense battles, the latest Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour event, Roxy Pro France 2011, came down to the crucial semi-final battles on Friday, July 15th, at the La Grande Plage in Biarritz, France.
The first semi-final saw Hawaii’s Carissa Moore take on France’s Pauline Ado in an intense battle for the coveted final spot. The 18-year-old Hawaiian managed to defeat her French rival to advance to the final stage of the competition.
Currently ASP World Tour No.1, Moore had been enjoying a sensational 2011 season so far. She had already collected three victories to climb to the top of the rankings and was comfortably placed to clinch her first ASP Championship crown. Though she started
off a little slow at the current stop of the World Tour, she seemed to have regained her rhythm and seemed quite prepared to seal the fate of the 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour season.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old Ado may not have been one of the most intimidating surfers in the world, but she had surely emerged as a force in France. Even though there were a few hiccups, she still managed to make it into the semi-finals for the first time
in the season and with the support of the local crowd behind her, an upset could have easily taken place in her battle against Moore.
However, such a thing did not come to pass. In fact, the outcome of the battle turned out to be exactly as expected.
Almost halfway throughout the heat, Moore locked a wave to show off her stylish manoeuvres and earn 8.00 from the judges for the wonderful effort. Apparently, she was not quite done yet. A few minute later, she caught another wave to pull off another string
of quick and clean turns, this time adding a 7.30 to her account and finishing with a heat-total of 15.30 points.
Facing such an intimidating opponent, Ado was clearly trying to fight odds as she tried to chase the score set up by her rival. She got off to a good start, adding a 7.00 to the scoreboard, but failed to follow it up with an equally impressive second-wave
and merely collected a 5.67 to reach a two-wave total of 12.67 points. She was evidently struggling in the sea and seemed to have run out of luck as far as catching waves was concerned.
Thanks to an excellent performance, Moore made her way through to the finals to await the surfer whom she would have to face for the event title.
