Carl Baxter stuns Dmytro Zavadsky in Men’s Singles first round of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix
England’s talented shuttler Carl Baxter has made his mark over the higher ranked Dmytro Zavadsky of Ukraine in the Men’s Singles first round of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix, at Almere, Netherlands, on Wednesday, October 12.
Baxter, who is currently World Number 76, played phenomenal badminton and stunned the World Number 46 and eighth seed of the event, Zavadsky, in a three-set thrilling contest by working extra hard for 53 minutes. The Ukrainian failed to get rid of the spirited
English opponent and lost the match with a narrow margin.
Baxter lost the opening set with a tight margin as he failed to control the game at the ending points. However, he bounced back and won the second set in a similar fashion. In the third game, both shuttlers entered into the concluding phase by remaining
close. However, Baxter played smart game and took the third game with a narrow score.
The first set remained close in the opening half when both players delivered wonderful performance and remained equal. Until the break, the English shuttler was just behind his opponent.
After the break, Zavadsky tried to stretch his lead but failed as his rival was playing at the same speed. The score was quite close until the ending points when Baxter made a critical mistake and lost the game with a dramatic difference of 19-21 in 17 minutes.
In the second set, the match progressed in the similar fashion as both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe. The score also remained tight until the concluding points of the second game. It was Baxter who played positive game at the end and won the set with a tight
margin of 21-19 in 18 minutes.
The deciding game of this thrilling fight was mouth watering for the Dutch crowd as both players again remained neck-to-neck until the ending points. Zavadsky got a couple of chances to finish the rallies but he missed, which helped Baxter to take the set
with a 21-19 score in 18 minutes.
Baxter won the rubber-set battle in 53 minutes with a 19-21, 21-19 and 21-19 score on the board.
