Carl Crawford officially introduced to Red Sox fans
The good times are almost here in Boston; at least that’s what any fan would think. Major League Baseball (MLB) is entering a new era of sports. With MLB Commissioner Bud Selig’s pondering over a potential move to expand the playoffs, there is a belief that
such a step could revolutionize baseball. The expansion would mean that bigger teams would now have the chance to advance to the post-season by playing fewer games in the regular campaign. One of the teams that could benefit from such a move is the Boston
Red Sox.
The Boston Red Sox were clearly the winners in the winter meetings and one thing the fans owe to the club’s General Manager is a round of applause. The team’s GM Theo Epstein played a major part in restructuring the club’s roster during the meetings. His
first move was to bring Adrian Gonzalez to the helm from the San Diego Padres. However it was his next signing that grabbed everyones attention.
Theo Epstein acquired Carl Crawford from the free market, and he made the headlines with the latest addition when the meetings concluded. The general manager formally announced the news recently, and introduced the player to the Red Sox fans in Boston. He
talked about Crawford and told the supporters he had been trying to sign the star before his eventual arrival.
Theo Epstein said, "Carl's been on our radar as a potential free-agent acquisition for a while, and actually since he signed his last contract, really. We started to get serious about it this year. We assigned Allard Baird, one of our top scouts, to follow
Carl basically for the whole second half of the season."
Carl Crawford also talked about his reasons for joining the Red Sox team. One of the major factors that led him to join the team was because the management genuinely cared for his needs.
Crawford told reporters, "They seemed really sincere about it. (Epstein) told me about how I could play with the players that they have here, that I really think are great players, and just the whole thing about how we can win and how he said I could help
this team immediately. You want to feel like you're wanted, and he definitely came to Houston and made me feel like he wanted me. That was big for me, to feel like I was going to go somewhere where the people actually wanted to have me."
