Carl Crawford’s homer helps Boston Red Sox defeat Oakland Athletics 6-3 - MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez launched a devastating homer each to crush the Oakland Athletics 6-3 in the third-straight game at Fenway Park, Boston on Sunday, June 5 to earn another series-sweep in 2011.
Left-fielder, Crawford swung his bat with full power to send a wobbly pitch by the A’s starter Brett Anderson into the spectators for three runs. David Ortiz was on second while Jed Lowrie was occupying first base when Crawford entered for his first at-bat
and launched his fifth homer of the season.
In the top of the third inning, Kevin Kouzmanoff hammered a dazzling 398-feet long one-run homer in an attempt to reduce the lead by one run. Then Daric Barton drove in to the right for an RBI single, which cut the lead 2-3.
Gonzalez launched a striking 369-feet long two-run homer to destroy the hopes in the camp of the A’s after they gained two runs in two consecutive innings. Nevertheless, the score was 5-2 when Daric Barton earned an RBI single to trim it to 5-3 but Boston’s
Dustin Pedroia again elevated it 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single.
As Boston’s starter John Lackey has completed his five innings, allowing three runs on three hits, walking two and making two strike-outs, relievers Matt Albers, Tommy Hottovy, Dan Wheeler and closer Daniel Bard tossed an innings each to take their club
into their 33rd win of the season.
After conquering the Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers, it was the fourth series sweep in this season. As both pitchers and batters performed well for the win, the manager Terry Francona was enjoying it with full confidence.
The A’s starter Brett Anderson allowed two homers in nine hits, gave away two walks and struck-out just two batters to bear his sixth loss of the season.
"Today was pretty much terrible. It's pretty much as bad a job as I can do," Anderson said. "My stuff was pretty bad. I need to get my breaking ball to where it was. It's kind of rolling in there."
However, reliever Fautino De Los Santos had a better game as compared to Anderson as he allowed one run on two hits and made four strike-outs over two innings. Closer Brad Ziegler gave away one hit over one inning.
