Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin face poor race day at Michigan International Speedway – NASCAR news
Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards and Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin went through an unlucky race day during the Pure Michigan 400 held at the Michigan International Speedway.
RFR driver Edwards spent some time in garage due to engine problems which forced him to finish in 36th place across the finish line. On the other hand, Denny Hamlin slammed his machine into the wall and after rejoining
the race, he finished at 35th position.
Edwards said, “I don't know what was wrong with it. It felt like it was running on seven cylinders. We changed a bunch of stuff and then it was fixed. It wasn't something mechanical, it was probably something with some electrical connection or a coil or
something.”
It was totally unexpected what Edwards faced as he was not having the optimum performance out of the engine. He felt it was hampered by some electric problem. Although they were expecting some kind of issues, but not to this extent.
Apparently, his visit to pit stop was a regular one, but as the crew deeply inspected the car, it was a serious trouble with the power plant.
JGR driver Denny Hamlin said, “We were fighting the car all day, from tight to loose and back and forth. Our car just really struggled on corner entry. I was in a pack of cars there and tried to enter the corner with a little bit more speed and just got
too loose and got into the wall.”
After hitting into the wall, Hamlin got a flat tyre and returned to the garage, where he spent crucial time of the race. The 35th place finish dropped him to 14th place in the drivers’
standings list. Even after losing two spots in the standings, he has been able to secure second wild card entry for the Sprint Cup Chase.
Considering his past performance at the Michigan circuit where he scored two wins and a second place finish, this type of race end was least expected from Hamlin.
Meanwhile Edwards is still safe at the fourth place in the Sprint Cup Chase standings following Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick.
