Carl Edwards aiming for a win at his home track in Kansas – NASCAR news
Carl Edwards is hoping that he can record his first victory in the Chase this season at his home track in Kansas.
Edwards is currently joint top of the table with Kevin Harvick and will be looking to take sole lead of the championship by winning the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas. Edwards is yet to win a race in the Chase but he knows that he should have won at Dover.
Edwards has not won a Chase race at Kansas, but has a generally good record. He has failed to finish in the top10 only twice in 8 starts and finished 5th here earlier in the season.
“I'm excited to be there. I really truly love racing at Kansas. It's one of the most fun racetracks we go to,” he said.
Edwards has been the most consistent driver in the Chase, finishing in the top10 in all three chase races. However, he is aware that to win the Championship, he will have to win at least one or two races in the Chase.
“I do believe that the winner of the championship is going to win a race or two in the Chase. I feel you're going to have to run so well, you will win a race or two... I feel like on average we've got I guess the best average finish. Some of that is luck.
Some of that is bad luck on the other guys' part. But I do believe our team is as strong or stronger than it's ever been,” Edwards said.
In his 7 seasons in the Sprint Cup, Edwards is yet to win the Championship. The closest he came was in 2008 when he finished 2nd to Jimmie Johnson. He will be hoping to set that right and a win at Kansas will go a long way in doing
that.
At the end of the Dover race, Edwards told his crew on the radio that they will win at Kansas. He will be hoping that prediction turns out to be true in the race. The qualifying for the Hollywood Casino is set to be on Saturday, October 8, 2011 with the
race scheduled for Sunday, October 9.
