Carl Edwards back to take another guitar, winning Nashville 300 – Racing News
Carl Edwards was back to take another guitar at Nashville Superspeedway after four years, winning Saturday’s Nashville 300 of the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
The Roush Fenway driver revived his dominance on the 1.33 mile track, and gained his fourth victory. At Nashville, he was winless since 2007 after competing in six NNS races. In 2006-07, he showed his complete dominance on the track winning three NNS in
a row.
“Was it 2007?” Edwards said. “That’s a long time to run poorly somewhere. Seemed like, every time we came we won for a little while. Was it three in a row? Then all of a sudden, we came here and really struggled. That’s really trying on everybody.”
The No.60 Ford Mustang driver was at his best in Saturday’s race. He not only led the most laps, but also beat his strong rival Kyle Busch.
Busch, who has shown some similar dominance on the track a day before in the Truck series race, did not have an answer for Edwards’ fast run.
“I have to give credit to [car owner] Jack Roush, to Ford, [engine builder] Doug Yates, [crew chief] Mike Beam, the guys at the shop,” Edwards said. “It looked like we were facing some insurmountable challenges, and they worked hard and got these cars better.”
His victory kept Busch from winning back-to-back races on the track.
Edwards in total led 189 of 225 laps in the race after taking five lead changes. He crossed Busch on the 191st lap and led for almost 34 laps. Busch tried to take over, but Edwards’ Mustang simply proved better. Edwards scored his second victory
of the season, with his post-race traditional back flip. He also gained the 31st victory of his NNS career, tying with Jack Ingram for fourth all time winners.
The race ended with the top-four finishers, who are competing for Sprint Cup Series title, including the last year NNS champion and two time Nashville winner Brad Keselowski for third place followed by the pole sitter Joey Logano for fourth. While Ricky
Stenhouse Jr. rounded off the top-five, he was the also the first one of the NNS championship competitors. The point’s leader of the NNS table completed the race in 11th place.
The driver is currently competing in the top most touring series of NASCAR. He is in the race for the championship hunt in the Sprint Cup series. While in the NNS, the team is participating for the owners’ championship with winning two races, four top-five
and two top-ten finishes. On the other hand, in the Cup series, the Roush racer is currently leading the table with one victory, four top-five and two top-ten finishes after competing in all eight races.
