Carl Edwards wins OneMain Financial 200 Nationwide Series race at Dover – NASCAR news
Carl Edwards continued his good record at Dover by winning the OneMain Financial 200 at the Dover International Speedway on Saturday, October 1, 2011.
The win is Edward’s 7th in the Nationwide Series and 36th of his career. Edwards had also won the 5-hour energy here at Dover earlier in the season.
Edwards held off fellow Chase racer Brad Keselowski and Clint Bowyer to take the chequered flag, leading 179 laps of the 200 laps.
Keselowski finished 2nd and said that he used the track to gain information about the Sprint Cup race.
Clint Bowyer continued his hot streak at Dover and ended up in 3rd. Kasey Kahne’s performances might actually make Red Bull Racing regret their decision to leave the sport as he put in another strong finish at 4th.
The top 4 are not in the running for the Nationwide Series title as they are competing for the Chase Cup, which is something of a relief for overall series leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. He finished 5th and will be pleased with his
position as compared to his other title challengers.
Trevor Bayne finished 6th with Reed Sorenson ending up in 7th. Ryan Truex, Mike Bliss and Justin Allgaier rounded off the top 10.
Elliott Sadler, Stenhouse’s closest competitor, finished 14th and has lost ground in this year’s Nationwide Series.
Stenhouse now leads Sadler by 22 points, and Reed Sorenson is another 27 points behind. Speaking after the race, Stenhouse was confident about his chances for this year’s championship.
“I think we're in control (of the points race), for sure,” Stenhouse said. “We've got a really good shot at this thing.”
For Edwards, the only thing he needs to work on is his post race celebrations. Edwards parked his car on its high, slanted banking and stumbled backward after his flip. He had to catch himself before he took a total tumble. Edwards was understandably embarrassed
and said that he would not do a back-flip if he won the Sprint Cup race.
The Nationwide Series now heads to Kansas next for the Kansas Lottery 300 at the Kansas Speedway on October 8, 2011.
