Carl Froch: Amir Khan’s boxing career is a write-off – Boxing News
Carl Froch, IBF super-middleweight world champion, believes Amir Khan’s boxing career is a write-off. Khan lost his WBA light welterweight title to WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia past Saturday via knockout.
Khan is now being criticised worldwide for his inability to take sound beating. He dominated the first two rounds but after receiving a devastating jab from Garcia, Khan lost it and fell to the canvas. Luckily, round 3 ended and both the fighters entered
the fourth round. With a couple of more punches, Khan was found winging off from Garcia. The referee stopped the fight, considering Khan incapable of taking Garcia’s thrashing anymore.
On the humiliating defeat, Carl Froch commented, “It's a write-off for him. Khan's been knocked out by someone who is not touted for the top level.”
He added, “It's very damaging. I would retire if that happened to me.”
“People can say that I have lost twice before, but if I had lost to Bute I would have retired.”
“I'm not in this sport to get beat, get knocked out and get outclassed, I'm in this game to be at the top and stay at the very top. It's a personal decision to retire but to get stopped in the fourth round after previously being knocked out is very damaging.
It's finishing. He has found a level.”
Froch referred to Khan’s previous knockout loss against Breidis Prescott, calling it Khan’s first ever disappointing defeat. According to Froch, Garcia’s loss came as Khan’s second consecutive defeat at the hands of a fighter who is not even in the top layer
of the sport.
Froch, who lost to Andre Ward last year, made a comeback earlier this year by defeating Lucian Bute. Now, he is on the track once again, and he believes Khan can make it too.
According to Froch, Khan has a lot of years left to give to the sport and if he has the will and desire he will make it back. However, Froch believes boxing is a very tough and competitive sport and Khan needs to buckle up if he wants to maintain his stature.
