Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham exchange blows at pre-fight presser
Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham wasted no time going for each other’s throats today at their pre-fight press conference in Helsinki. Froch asked why “King” Abraham wears a plastic crown and a feather coat, and Abraham said he would be happy to give Froch
a plastic crown, but not a real one.
The two super middleweight contenders square off at the Hartwell Arena on November 27 for the vacant WBC super middleweight title. The fight marks their Group Stage 3 bout in Showtime’s Super Six Boxing tournament.
Froch (26-1, 20 KOs) slyly remarked that he found it peculiar that Abraham refers to himself as “The King” and dresses like one. He said: “Abraham has a picture of himself posing as a king at his house. He wears a plastic crown and a feather coat. I find
that very strange and it tells you something about him. He will certainly not be the king after we have met inside the ring. I am going to stuff him like a chicken.”
In response, the ever-willing Abraham (31-1, 25 KOs) said: “I will be happy to give him a plastic crown after I am done with him. [But] He will never get a real crown. And he will not get the WBC title either. I think he is a good puncher but he is an even
better talker. I don´t like to talk much before a fight. I prefer to let my fists do the talking in the ring on November 27.”
Though both fighters did not spare the insults, they were equally charitable in compliments and respect. However, as is usually the case, both said that they would walk away victorious and with the WBC title.
Ulli Wegner, Abraham’s coach, suggested that Froch was in for a rough night and that he hadn’t accounted for how tough Abraham actually is. “I don´t think he has realized yet how hard Arthur can punch,” the seven-time coach-of-the-year said. “Once he finds
out on November 27, it will be too late.”
