Carl Froch believes Bute will not ask for a rematch – Boxing News
After brutally beating Lucian Bute in the fifth round on Saturday, Carl Froch believes the dethroned champion will not ask for a rematch. Froch, the now IBF super middleweight champion, believes his fifth round knockout was enough to end Bute’s career.
In his recent interview, Froch spoke about how he felt in the ring against Bute. The Briton said that by third round, Bute was drained and he did not have the fighting spirit in him left. He added, “Personally I don’t think Bute will want the rematch because
as a fighter, I looked into his eyes and after round three I saw something drain from him. Something only a fighter can see. I don’t think he’s going to want to fight again, let alone fight me again. Honestly. He came here unbeaten and got absolutely, devastatingly
beaten. That doesn’t happen often to top-level fighters. That was some performance by me – and I think it was a career-ending performance. You never know. I don’t know what he’s made of, so we’ll see.”
He added that he still has the aim of unifying world titles and that he believes Ward will soon step up to fight Chad Dawson at the light heavyweight podium. On the other, he added, Dawson might come down to super-middleweight level which, according to Froch,
would be a fatal mistake of his career.
Froch, who was defeated last year by Ward, said Ward had a good night and he had a bad night which was the only reason as to why Ward won. According to Froch, if he fights the same way he fought Bute, nobody can beat him or touch him in the ring. He further
said that if he catches Ward on the chin then there is no chance that Ward will survive.
It should be noted here that this was Bute’s first ever title-defense bout in another land. Bute was highly criticised for being afraid of fighting in another fighter’s native land and so he accepted the challenge and went for it. Unfortunately, it did not
work out for Bute and he lost his titles.
