Carl Froch clobbers Glen Johnson to set a clash with Andre Ward – Boxing news
World Boxing Council’s Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch clobbered the Jamaican pugilist Glen Johnson on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in the semi-final bout of the Super Six Classics tournament to secure a place in the final.
The Cobra, Carl Froch, has now set up a potential clash with the unbeaten American World Boxing Association’s World Super Middleweight champion Andre Ward in the December 2011 final.
It was a very good fight which went all the way. Both pugilists exchanged a lot of punches but in the end it was the Englishman Froch who came on top and gained enough points to secure a unification bout with Ward.
There was a twist in the end when one of the judges called the fight a draw at 114-114. However, team Froch was never worried, as the other two scorecards, 117-111 and 116-112, were in their favour.
Despite winning comfortably, the 33-year-old Froch was not happy with the judge who called it a draw. He said in the post-match conference that scoring like that was a disgrace and thanked god for the fact that other judges voted in his favour.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “What fight was he at? Scoring it like that was disgraceful and the other judges showed him up for what he was. I won that fight by four rounds at least.”
Froch was also admired by the 42-year-old Johnson who said Froch was a very good fighter and stands an excellent chance to come on top.
He remarked, “He is tough, he has as good a chance as anyone and he can come out on top.”
Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn also supported his fighter on the occasion and stated there were not many fighters similar to Carl Froch. He said Froch was a brave fighter who did not hesitate fighting anyone anywhere.
“Carl has always been under-rated in my book and never had the kind of superstar recognition he rightly deserves,” Hearn said. “There are not many fighters like him who will fight anyone, anywhere.”
