Carl Froch hopes to bring speed, movement, new found wisdom to the ring
Carl “The Cobra” Froch wants to regain the WBC super middleweight crown—and he believes the way to do that is to use his superior speed and movement against Arthur “The King” Abraham on Saturday.
“In this Abraham fight speed and movement is the key to success. The power [of mine] is there anyway,” Froch said in a recent Telegraph article.
Froch and Abraham will meet in Helsinki, Finland, in the third stage of Showtime’s Super Six boxing tournament. They will be fighting for the vacant WBC super middleweight title, but more than that will be on the line.
After months of talk and heated insult they will be fighting for pride.
In Froch’s last bout, he lost a close decision to Mikkel Kessler. The fight cost him the WBC title.
Since then Froch feels he has become a new fighter. He promises he learned from his defeat.
He’s also had a son, which changed things and put “life in perspective.” “Having my baby boy has been fantastic and amazing. The one thing it hasn’t been is a distraction,” Froch said.
On the contrary. “Right now I am at my peak and I am not going to get any stronger, but mentally you get more switched on [as time goes by]. You have seen that with the wise old fox Bernard Hopkins,” Froch chuckled.
Against Abraham Froch will look to move around the ring and fight at his own pace. Abraham, who holds a high guard, will likely stalk Froch, but “The Cobra” isn’t the type of fighter to back down from a slugger.
That’s one reason most boxing insiders think this is going to be a top-notch barn burner. In terms of betting, odds are basically even, with Abraham having a slight edge. Either way the action goes, reports of sizeable action can be guaranteed for this
bout.
