Carl Froch not intimidated by fighting Lucian Bute in Montreal – Boxing News
Briton fighter Carl Froch has registered that he is not intimidated with the idea of facing Romanian-Canadian fighter Lucian Bute in Montreal, which is Bute’s hometown. Froch, who defeated Bute in Nottingham in May this year to grab the Canadian’s super
middleweight title, is confident that he can beat his nemesis in Montreal too.
On the other hand, Bute is already eager to take on Froch. He defeated Denis Grachev past Saturday to grab the Russian’s light heavyweight title. Bute won the showdown via unanimous decision, but Froch is not impressed with his performance.
“Let's be honest, it wasn't the most impressive performance from Lucian Bute that I've ever seen,” said Froch in an interview with Sky Sports. “It wasn't vintage by any stretch of the imagination.
“Bute didn't really impress, but it was a comeback fight from a devastating defeat against myself, so what did people expect? He needed to find his feet again, find his confidence. I'm sure he's done that. I think mentally he needed to get that fight in
the bag.”
Bute can go for a rematch against Froch anytime he wants, as per the contract both men signed for their May showdown. However, it seems like the Canadian former champion has taken his sweet time to get his confidence back and to ensure he can defeat Froch
this time.
“He's got the win and done what he needed to do to re-establish himself. Now I'm hoping the rematch will happen,” Froch added.
It should be noted here that Bute has always faced the criticism of not being able to win outside his hometown. His recent victory over Denis Grachev was acquired in his hometown as well. Bute has a solid fan base in Montreal and the crowd pressure can make
any fighter fall off his game. However, Froch is not intimidated anymore with the crowd pressure anymore. The Briton is brave enough to face Bute in his hometown.
According to Froch, the rematch will be Bute’s only chance to get the IBF super-middle title back. If the Canadian loses, Froch is in no mood to go for a third match.
