Carl Froch pounds on Arthur Abraham, says he’s scared
Super middleweight contender Carl Froch believes upcoming opponent Arthur Abraham is scared of him.
In a Thursday interview with Fightnews.com, Froch speculated that “King” Arthur was looking for every psychological advantage before they fight in Helsinki, Finland, on November 27.
“He is definitely afraid of me,” Froch said. “It’s his first proper fight with a real puncher at 168.”
Froch and Abraham have been engaged in a verbal war for the better part of two months.  An original fight date was postponed when Froch cited a back injury, in turn criticized by Abraham.
“If he honestly thinks I pulled a fake bad back, which has cost me a lot of money and inconvenience [as well as] for my family and friends, he’s more ludicrous than everybody thought he was,” Froch added.
The two will be competing in the Group Stage 3 of Showtime’s Super Six tournament.  Due to a withdrawal from tournament participant Mikkel Kessler, the fight will also be for the WBC super middleweight title.
Kessler withdrew after citing an eye injury, adding to the long list of problems that have marred the Showtime sponsored tournament.
Though dubbed “Super Six,” the competition has currently seen no less than eight fighters.
In the most recent bout, veteran Glen Johnson scored a sensational eighth round knockout of Allan Green.  Johnson fought at the super middleweight level, 168 pounds, for the first time in over a decade, but managed to make weight regardless and put on a
classy performance.
Green, reacting sorely to the loss, has petitioned to have the decision overturned.  He claims that he was hit repeatedly with ‘rabbit punches’ which are illegal punches to the back of the head.
While some are sympathetic to his cause, most feel that Green was never truly a game competitor anyway, and that removing him from the tournament merely makes way for better things.
