Carl Froch reckons Amir Khan in danger of becoming a forgotten fighter – Boxing news
World Boxing Council super middleweight titleholder Carl Froch reckons Amir ‘King Khan’ Khan is in danger of becoming a forgotten fighter if his rivalry with Sky Sports Television continues.
In April 2011, Sky Sports refused to broadcast Khan’s latest title defence against Paul McCloskey, which was held at Manchester’s MEN Arena. The fight was then aired by a newly stepped in channel. However, Sky Sports followed a blazing row over pay-per-view
fees.
Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch has struggled years to gain public attraction and therefore realises the importance of staying in the public eye. Froch, who has recently signed a five-fight promotional deal with Barry and Eddie Hearn’s outfit Matchroom Sport, told
a British newspaper that if the 24-year-old Khan does not find a solution for his ongoing problems with the broadcasting giant, he will lose his image publicly.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Why would anyone leave Sky and go to another? But Khan has been taking advice and did exactly that for his last fight. Has Khan taken the right advice. Has he been given the right advice? His team obviously think
they are doing the right things but Amir is in danger of disappearing from general public view. If he doesn't fight on Sky he will slip under the radar.”
Khan’s fellow countryman Froch, who has won 27 of his 28 fights with 20 knockouts, remarked he has been through all this and that was why he knows the consequences. He admitted he did not get the right exposure on becoming the World Champion.
“I know because it has already happened to me. I didn't get the right TV exposure after I became world champion. My subsequent defences were not on mainstream TV either and that is why I am not a household name - but that is about to change,” he said.
However, Froch, who has been trying hard to get back on Sky Sports, was delighted for his next bout, which will be broadcasted on the Sky Sports in High Definition.
The 33-year-old Froch will take on the Jamaican pugilist Glen Johnson this Saturday in the Super Six Boxing Classic semi-final match in Atlantic City.
