Carl Froch says jab will halt Glen Johnson
Following a masterful weekend performance over Arthur “The King” Abraham, Carl “The Cobra” Froch says he will rely on his stiff jab and developing boxing skills to get past Glen Johnson in his next Super Six tournament fight.
Froch outclassed Abraham in the neutral location of Helsinki, Finland, on Saturday 27 November, dominating almost to every round by out-hustling the notoriously slow-starting Abraham. The twelve-round decision puts Froch in the No.2 seed of the tournament
and confirms and upcoming match-up with No.3 seed Johnson.
When asked what he will do in the upcoming March 2011 bout, Froch said to
Fanhouse, “I'm going to do what I do best, and continue to do what I do best. That means that I'm going to continue to use that jab and box and move and keep out of the way.”
“I don't think that Johnson can get past that jab, and if he does, then there's a right hand waiting for him,” Froch continued. “So, I'm just going to keep jabbing and double-up on the jab like I did against Arthur Abraham. I could have done 25 rounds at
that pace.”
The victory came as a surprise to many in the boxing world, with betting odds anticipating Abraham to win. Instead, Abraham never seemed physically or mentally involved in the fight, inspiring speculations that he may have lost the flame that shaped a rise
through the ranks in earlier years.
Froch said that while the fight looked easy from the perspective of the audience, it took a lot of self-discipline and control to execute his game plan successfully.
"It was a hard fight, but I made it look easy because of the tactics that I applied. But it was hard to stay focused and to concentrate and to do what I had to do to win. I know that it looked to be easy, but that's because I made it look easy."
