Carl Froch unhappy over postponement of fight with Andre Ward – Boxing news
The two-time and reigning World Boxing Council Super Middleweight champion, Carl Froch, is not happy on the postponement of his mega showdown with the unbeaten American prospect, Andre Ward, who recently sustained a cut above his right-eye during a sparring
session.
The Nottingham’s Cobra, Froch, was set to meet Ward in a much-anticipated ‘winner takes all’ final of the Super Six World Boxing Classic tournament on October 29, 2011 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. However, the fight has now been postponed to December
17, as Ward’s cut needs some time to heal.
However, Ward, who received seven stitches, recently apologised to Froch for whatever happened. Froch reckons five weeks should have been enough for Ward’s cut.
The 34-year-old Englishman, Froch, who has won 28 of his 29 professional fights, with 20 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media he has never entered the ring 100 percent injury-free. Froch is desperate to take on Ward, as he vowed he
will break Ward’s unbeaten streak anyway.
Froch told Skysports.com “He can't be blaming a cut on the eye. Five weeks to heal a cut is ample. I'll be looking to cut him anyway in round one. He uses his head a lot, so maybe it'll calm him down a lot. No excuses - no fighter gets in the ring 100% injury-free
anyway. I'm always injured, no need to get the violins out.”
In the end Froch claimed though he is in the best shape of his life, he will start training in a week or so.
“Although I'm at my peak fitness, I need to ease off for a week, ten days and then get back on the case. It's a long old camp, but I'll be ready,” Froch added.
Ward holds an unbeaten record of winning all of his 24 professional fights, with 13 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. However, let’s see if Froch can really become the first man to beat Ward in the ring.
