Carl Froch upset by Andre Ward’s link with Victor Conte, wants drug-test before fight – Boxing news
The two-time and the reigning World Boxing Council’s Super Middleweight champion, Carl Froch, is pretty upset with Andre Ward’s link with Victor Conte, who is known for his links with steroids in the sport.
Conte was also found guilty of supplying steroids to numerous athletes including British athlete Dwain Chamber, who was serving a life time ban from his participation in the Olympic Games.
The 34-year-old Nottingham’s Cobra, Froch, is set to face the reigning World Boxing Council’s Super Middleweight champion, Andre Ward, in a highly anticipated ‘Winner takes all’ final of the Super Six Classics tournament on October 29, 2011.
This bout which will have all the three WBA, WBC belts and the prestigious Ring Magazine’s titles on the line is the biggest fight of Froch’s career thus far. Therefore Froch, who has won 28 of his 29 professional fights, with 20 of his wins coming by the
way of a knockout, does not want to take any risks.
Froch, who previously held in British title at Super Middleweight level, admitted in front of the media that he is not happy with Ward and Conte’s relation, as the Brit claimed he has heard a lot of stories about Conte providing steroids to the American
boxers.
“I’m not happy about Ward and Conte,” Froch said. “There have been stories about American boxers taking steroids, so you do wonder if people are taking things to give them the edge.”
In the end, Froch stated he will talk about all of this with his promoter and hopefully there will be a drug-test before the fight.
He said, “I will be raising the question with my promoter Eddie Hearn and he will probably do something about it, whether it’s a pre-fight drug test or blood test.”
Andre Ward is an undefeated American pugilist who holds the record of winning all of his 24 professional fights, with 13 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. He will also enter the ring as a favourite against Froch.
However, all that is left to see is whether Ward agrees upon taking the blood test or not.
