Carl Froch wants to face Kelly Pavlik next – Boxing News
IBF super-middleweight titlist Carl Froch wants to go head to head against Kelly Pavlik in Nottingham. The Briton wants to persuade Pavlik to have the fight in Nottingham, as he believes it will be best for his fans.
“Pavlik has been calling me out, so I'd like to shut him up. If we can get him over to Nottingham, that's one that fans would want,” said Froch in his recent interview to BBC.
He added, “He's just one name, and there are a couple of other names that Eddie's looking at. We're looking at 3 November, or 10 November - they're the two dates that have been pencilled in. It gives me an opportunity to fight again in Nottingham and to
defend the IBF title. So we're trying to find a feasible opponent - someone who's decent and ranked in the top five in the world.”
Froch defeated Lucian Bute of Canada in Nottingham to grab the IBF title. It was Bute’s first ever title defence match outside his hometown and he lost. Bute has been criticised for being a fighter who cannot take pressure from spectators. Therefore, all
his major wins have been in his hometown.
Even now, Bute wants to exercise the rematch clause against Froch in Montreal, his hometown to ensure he is successful in reclaiming his title. Froch is ready to give Bute what he wants, but wants to defend his title against another opponent before a rematch
with Bute.
For now, Froch wants to take on Kelly Pavlik, believing the latter is a good opponent to lock horns with. According to Froch, a fight against Kelly Pavlik would be enjoyed by the fans and so it should happen sooner or later.
When asked about Bute’s future, Froch said no one would take Bute seriously now after the way he lost to him. According to Froch, whatever Bute does now, people will always say he was whopped by Froch.
On the other hand, Bute believes he can reclaim his title in the rematch, if Froch is willing to go all the way to Montreal for the match.
