Carl Hayman out for four weeks - Rugby News Update
The aggressive French side, Toulon, suffered a crushing blow with the news that the 32-year-old Carl Hayman has been banned for four weeks.
A disciplinary hearing had taken place on Friday, proceeding from the Amlin Challenge Cup Final game with the Biarritz last week.
The prop, Carl Hayman, was yellow carded by referee Wayne Barnes following a dangerous tackle made on Biarritz wing Taku Ngwenya.
The first three weeks of his ban will end on June 10, which means that the former New Zealand Test prop will miss tomorrow’s quarter-final clash against Racing Metro.
The last week of the suspension will commence when Toulon’s first start their pre-season fixture, late in July 2012/2013. His ban will officially end on August 2.
Christopher Quinlan, the judicial officer (England), was present at the hearing. Evidence from the former Newcastle prop Hayman was submitted and he also accepted that he was in the wrong, but said that the indecent play deserved a yellow card and not a
red.
The judicial officer, having considered the current factors, upheld the accusation and found that the foul play deserved a red card, and then employed the IRB's recommended sanctions.
The All Blacks' hard-man, Carl Hayman, became the 1000th player to make his debut for the New Zealand side in 2001, and established himself as one of the most elite props in the world. In the year 2006 Hayman was shortlisted for New Zealand's top 5 players
of the year.
Hayman became the highest paid player when he joined the Newcastle Falcons on contract, receiving an amount of 350,000 pounds a year until 2010.
Hayman joined the French club Toulon in 2010, at the end of the season. He was one of the high profiles players that signed with Toulon alongside Jonny Wilkinson and Juan Martin.
The French side will now have to play without the star player in the French Top 14 play-offs, which would not be easy to do, as Carl Hayman is one of the world’s top props and also holds plays key roles in all their matches.
