Carl Landry drops 21; New Orleans Hornets roll over Denver Nuggets 94-81: NBA Recap
The Denver Nuggets came into Monday night’s game as the highest scoring team in the Western Conference, but on the night they were reduced to just 39 percent shooting from the floor, resulting in a 94-81 thrashing by the New Orleans
Hornets.
The game at the Pepsi Center started off evenly but soon the Hornets established their grip and completely dominated the second and the third quarter.
Newly acquired centre Chris Kaman put in a star shift for the Hornets with 20 points and 7 rebounds while Carl Landry came off the bench to get the game high 21 points. Marco Belinelli also made an impact with 19 points while point
guard Jarrett Jack was on song with 13 points and 9 assists.
Danilo Gallinari did well for the Nuggets on a disappointing night with 15 points. Ty Lawson also had 15 points but wasn’t able to assert himself in the running of the game as the point guard would have wanted to. Guards Rudy Fernandez
and Arron Afflalo were the other two players in double figures for the Nuggets with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Denver were quicker out of the blocks, racing to an 8 – 2 lead at the start of the game. The Hornets though reined them in and used a 6 – 0 burst to take the lead, only to have it change hands again with Denver ending the quarter
on top at 27 – 26.
The second quarter though completely belonged to the Hornets. They had a 9 – 2 run before the halfway mark that put some distance between the two sides and even took their lead into double figures before the half ended at 54 –
46.
It was more of the same after the break as the Hornets kept increasing their lead with little bursts throughout the third quarter. They didn’t give  the Nuggets too many chances to get close to them as the quarter progressed and
by the end were leading at 78 – 64 after a 7 – 0 run.
The last quarter was largely unremarkable as Denver never got within touching distance of the Hornets. In fact New Orleans had a devastating 10 – 0 blitz that put further daylight between the sides made Denver went 10 – 2 to end
the game at 94 – 81.
