Carl Pavano shines as Minnesota Twins defeat New York Yankees 7-6 – MLB Update

Carl Pavano permitted five runs with four earned runs and 11 hits over six innings as the Minnesota Twins defeated New York Yankees 7-6 at Hammond Stadium, Florida, on March 27.
Pavano was discontent with his performance by offering five runs to the Yankees’ batters. He played only nine games with the Yankees in this spring season due to injuries and had an ERA of 0.95. He had one walk with four strike-outs.
The Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi also praised Pavano for his extra-ordinary pitching and further added that he has revived his career with that performance. Robinson Cano struck a single home-run against Pavano during the first inning, which was the Cano's
second of spring season.
After the game, Pavano expressed his views and said, “You have starts like this. It's all about being healthy. Obviously the results aren't what I would like to see, but I've been pretty consistent. It was just one of those days where it was a battle.”
Carl had an outstanding record in his past, as he had 17-11 wins with an ERA of 3.75 during 2010. He had his superlative season with the Florida Marlins in 2004 as he went 18-8 victory with an ERA of 3.00.
Pavano was preferred as a starting pitcher for Opening Day. He joined the Twins in the mid of 2009 after being trading from the Cleveland Indians.
The Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire made some amendments in the Opening Day’s line-up and said, “We're trying to mix and match and get comfortable. We'll see how it works. I'll have a better feel for it once we get into the season. We'll have a way better
feel for how we're going to work things out.”
Gardenhire didn’t make any decision yet about the closer due to a tie between Matt Capps and Joe Nathan. Other players like Kevin Slowey, Jose Mijares and Glen Perkins will be the reliever for the Twins.
Alex Rodriguez did have any runs with two at-bats and was struck-out. Michael Cuddyer, the Twins’ right-fielder, struck a single home-run which was his first homer of this spring season. While the Twins’ designated hitter Jim Thome made two runs and a solo
homer for his team. Matt Tolbert made two RBIs and three runs. Mark Teixeira made two runs with three at-bats including two RBIs and a double for the Yankees.
The Twins put in a brilliant performance as they managed to restrict the powerful Yankees’ offence. New York will be looking to improve their performance before the regular season starts. It will be interesting to see how long the Twins can carry their winning
momentum into their match-up
