Carl Pavano’s pitching helps Minnesota Twins defeat Chicago White Sox 4-1 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins’ starter, Carl Pavano displayed an outstanding performance with his pitching as he threw right through the game with an ERA of 4.20 in the Twins’ 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox at Target Field, Minnesota on June 15.
The pitchers were on top from the beginning as they did not allow any run in the first two innings. The Twins’ third baseman, Danny Valencia was grounded out to first base while Matt Tolbert flied out to left-field at the bottom of the second inning.
In the third inning, the Twins got off the mark by blasting three runs and took a 3-0 lead. Alexi Casilla doubled to right-field and Ben Revere completed a single run. The last two runs during the third inning were taken by Casilla and Michael Cuddyer as
they both contributed two runs jointly when Delmon Young drove a shot towards centre-field.
Fourth and fifth inning again went in favour of the pitchers as they controlled the scoring shots of the batters with their ideal pitching. Pavano outclassed the batters as he permitted just one run on six hits including one earned run in his nine inning
pitches. He struck-out five batters and gave three walks on his 96 pitches.
Pavano expressed his excitement and said, “I feel like I'm settling in a little better as far as getting a little stronger and consistent with the things I'm trying to establish, and so is the team. There's a lot of guys who have stepped in, because we have
a lot of injuries, and picked up a lot of guys.”
The Twins’ manager, Ron Gardenhire was amused with the performance of Pavano and said, “Just looking over at the other side, I wanted somebody who can spin the baseball. Carl can spin the ball as well as anybody. I trust him. I trust him in those situations.”
On the other side, the White Sox scored their first and final run in the sixth inning to reduce their lead 3-1 when Gordon Beckham added one run on the single-run shot of Brent Morel towards centre-field. Seventh inning again passed score-less for both sides.
The Twins extended their lead 4-1 during the eighth inning when Valencia doubled to deep left centre and Cuddyer posted a single run to end the game. No run was contributed in the ninth inning from either side.
