Carl Petterson satisfied with his big-physique – Golf News
Carl Pettersson, one of the heftiest players on the PGA Tour, recorded a win in last week’s RBC Heritage to prove the idea wrong that the game of golf suits the fittest people.
There was a time, a couple of years ago, when he lost some pounds off his large-waist body. However, he also lost his game too in the process.
“That was during the off season, and it really threw my golf game '09 I played terrible, I finished 150 something on the money list, FedExCup list,” The Swedish and United States’ nationality holder said.
Therefore, he decided to stop the work outs that were causing his weight to lessen. It was the right decision to return to the shape that earned him some victories in professional golf.
When he was asked about the secret behind putting on the weight so quickly, he amusingly replied by saying that 10 beers and a tub of ice-cream prior to going to bed can help in achieving the goal easily.
According to Pettersson, too many work outs before the tournaments do not bring many changes in one’s game.
Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood are known for their exercises prior to the start of each tournament they play.
He admits that physical fitness is a requirement of a healthy life. Yet, there are some requirements of the game of golf that need to be met. For this purpose, he cannot lose much weight that can hinder in his performance on the course.
“Well, ultimately it's a hand eye coordination sport,” he said. “Just because you don't look like an athlete doesn't mean you're not an athlete. We're not running marathons here, we're just walking 18 holes. Maybe some of these guys are overdoing it,” he said humorously.
“It's great to be fit and everything, but I feel like I'm fit enough to get around 18 holes,” he added.
By and large, most players try to follow the routine that best suits them in achieving their goals in the game of golf. If someone feels comfortable with a bulky physique, he has complete right to remain the same, as long as it does not raise too many health concerns.
