Carl Petterssen and Jason Dufner stand a good chance at Wyndham
Webb Simpson may be the defending champion but he is not being tipped as a contender at the Wyndham Championship. After winning US Open, Simpson took some time off from golf and spent a few months with his family, for the birth of his second child.
However, last week at Kiawah Island, he missed the cut and look out of sorts. It will take some time for him to return back to winning ways.
Meanwhile Jason Dufner and Carl Petterssen have been making strong moves. Both of them stand a very good chance at the Sedgefield.
Carl has been a previous winner here, in 2008, but this time around, things are slightly altered. The greens have been layered with new grass. This makes the ball go much quicker now.
Sedgefield is one of the easiest par 70 courses on the PGA Tour and people have been shooting low scores here. Carl Petterssen holds the record for shooting the lowest score here. He shot a round of 61 back in 2008, when he won.
Another factor which will add to his advantage is that many young guns are participating in this event. The likes of Rory Mcllroy and Tiger Woods have taken the week off to prepare for the FedEx Cup playoffs.
There will be a lot at stake for Jason Dufner at the Championship. A victory or even a tie for the second would mean that he would climb up in the rankings. He might even start with Tiger Woods or Rory Mcllroy at the playoffs.
The weather conditions do not look very bright but this might add to players’ advantage. Rain is expected in the week and with such an easy course with soft greens, we might see some records being broken.
Brandt Snedeker is also in line for the title, he has been playing well recently. A third place finish at the Open Championship showed that he has the quality to be among the best and he has registered some very good scores at this course.
Other possible title challengers are Nick Watney, David Toms, and Tim Clark. Given the unpredictable nature of golf, one never knows, it just might be John Daly.
