Carl Pettersson holds a slender lead at Wyndham
Carl Pettersson continued his good run of form from the Kiawah Island. The Swede shot a flawless round of 62 at the Wyndham Championship.
In the first round, Carl shot eight birdies. He started the round brightly with two birdies in the first three holes.
The Swedish star currently holds a one shot lead over David Mathis and Tim Clark. David and Tim also had a magnificent round, as they showcased some of their talent. The South African especially had some flashes of brilliance at the Sedgefield Country Club.
The defending champion, Webb Simpson also looks to be back in some sort of rhythm, as he sits four shots adrift of the leader, Car Pettersson.
Carl started the round from the back nine and he was in the mood for the word ‘go’. Two birdies on the first three holes and then five consecutive pars meant that he was in business.
"I started off the round good with two birdies in the first three holes and got me kind of straight back into the score mode from last week," said Pettersson.
The Swede had sharpened his irons and polished his putter to perfection, as he hit some beautiful approaches and made some very sweet putts.
"I hit it pretty good off the tee and hit my irons good and putted really well. It was a great day for me".
Wyndham is the last chance for those looking to make it into the top-125 players’ list for the FedEx Cup playoffs. The American, David Mathis was the only notable player outside the list of top 125 who was looking to make any progress.
"It is nice to get off to a solid start, give myself an opportunity to go forward to have a good finish and get in those playoffs which, gosh, it is a pretty big deal," said Mathis, who has been a previous winner here, back in 2008.
The top-125 players in the FedEx Cup standings will make it to the Barclays next week and Wyndham Championship is the last tournament to gain some FedEx Cup points from.
Meanwhile, Tom Gillis, Troy Matteson and Scott Stallings are all sitting comfortably at the fourth position, after they shot a round 64.
