Carl Pettersson is not eligible for the Ryder Cup
Carl Pettersson is not in the list of the Ryder Cup points table, for not having the European Tours’ membership for the current year.
The 34-year-old Swedish professional golf player is currently playing on the Professional Golf Association Tour and is giving his best there.
He was eyeing the upcoming Ryder Cups’ European Team, but is not eligible for the mega event, due to no Tour card, nor a membership.
“You have to be a member of the European Tour, which I’m not,” Pettersson said Tuesday. “I’m not going to think about it too much. It’s a complicated system. I’m not even sure if I’m a member of the European Tour, which you have to be, to be eligible”.
“Maybe I could be a captain’s pick? But that’s a long way down the road . . . too far down the road, just see what happens”.
He has proved his skills in 2012, at PGA. He played nine events in the current year and among them, finished three tournaments in the top-5 list.
Pettersson firstly finished tied for the second position in the Sony Open in Hawaii, in January. Then, he amazed his worldwide fans by securing another runner-up position in the Shell Houston Open in April.
After recording two tremendous finishes, he successfully won the title of the RBC Heritage on April 15, 2012.
Hence, he is in form this year and was gearing up his performance for the Ryder Cup. In a recent interview, when asked about the European Tour membership, he shared that he cannot play two tours at a time.
He faces difficulties while playing in two other continents, as he has suffered from the commuting factor in the past and does not want to face the troubles again.
“It’s too hard to play two tours at once,” Pettersson said. “It’s hard to compete on one, let alone two. I’ve seen others try to do two. It’s very difficult. Luke Donald did it last year. I know it’s a Ryder Cup year. But if I’m playing well, maybe they’ll
take me”.
Pettersson is somewhat confident about his selection in the Europeans’ Team. According to him, he has proved his golfing skills and will be picked for the tournament in the near future.
