Carl Pettersson leads at Zurich Classic of New Orleans – Second round updates
Swedish Carl Pettersson is in the lead after he teed off from the back-nine and is currently at par after the first hole of the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans golf tournament.
The tournament is being held at the Tournament Players Club Louisiana. Pettersson drove the ball to a distance of 310 yards and managed to hit the Green in Regulation, but he could not roll the putt in one attempt and had to settle for a par.
John Rollins had a similar fate who drove the tee shot to 290 yards, hit the Green in Regulation, but missed the birdie putt.
Tommy Gainey, who stepped into the second round with a score of 5-under par, teed off from the front-nine and dropped a shot at the third hole after leaving two opening greens for a par.
Meanwhile, world number three Luke Donald, who kept his scorecard blemish-free in the first round, parred the opening hole at the back-nine. He attained 100 percent success rate in finding the fairway and the green, but could not relish success in holing
it for a birdie.
Steve Stricker teed off from the back-nine and birdied the hole after reaching the green in two shots.
World number five Graeme McDowell, who stepped into the second round with a terrible score from the opening round, managed to birdie the first hole on the back-nine.
The Northern Irish double-bogeyed three holes in the back-nine on Thursday against five birdies and wrapped the day with a score of 1-over par. McDowell, who won three titles last year, is without a triumph in 2011 so far. Despite that, he has not given
up hope.
He demonstrated that in an interview to the press after the first round. He stated, “I am feeling good, fit and healthy and the golf swing's getting better and better all the time. I definitely have not been playing my best for the last little while. But
getting things back on track, and I'm excited about the game now.”
