Carla Suarez Navarro defeats Eva Birnerova in 1st round – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Espanola Carla Suarez Navarro dismissed Czech Eva Birnerova in the opening draw of the Hansol Korea Open 2011. Both the players battled it out on the hard courts of Olympic Tennis Courts in Seoul, South Korea on the 20th of September
2011. After seventy minutes of play, the Spaniard Navarro won in straight 6-4, 6-4 sets.
The first set was opened by Navarro, as she reeled off an easy service game and broke her opponent once in the first three games to take a lead of 3-0. During the following three games Birnerova pulled up her sleeves and got back
into the game, as she also broke her adversary and held her serve to equalize the score at 3-3.
Both the players again won on their particular serves in the next two games and by the ninth game Navarro broke her opponent to take a mini lead at such a crucial point in the game. As she then went on to holding her serve in the
tenth game, she smashed a backhand down the line to round off an easy opening set victory.
Amidst the first set Navarro had hit 68 percent of her first serves on target, out of which she was able to win 65 percent of her first service points. She also smashed an ace and restricted herself to only a few double faults.
The Espanola executed an almost perfect set and put pressure on Birnerova. Serving first in the second set was again Navarro, who held her serve in the first game and successfully posted herself on the score board. The two had
held their serve on alternate service games in the first two games, during the following two they broke each other back-to-back and balanced the score to 2-2. In the following four games the players again kept winning on their respective serves until the score
tied at 4-4.
By the tenth game Navarro was looking to break her opponent, while, Birnerova was serving to equalize the score. Fortunately for Navarro, Birnerova committed a double fault and was broken.
The match was dominated by Navarro, who was the stronger player and she subjugated the two sets. She benefitted from a 63 percent win of total service points attained in the match, capitalized on four break points out of the total
four that were presented to her. By smashing two aces she clogged the match without a loss of a single set.
Navarro secured a place in the second round of the event where she will be facing Slovenian Polona Hercog.
