Carla Suarez Navarro dumps Marta Domachowska to reach round two – Nurnberger Gastein Ladies 2012
Seeded fourth in the tournament, Carla Suarez Navarro tumbled the Polish contestant, Marta Domachowska, in straight sets at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies 2012 on Tuesday. She penned down a 6-4, 7-5 victory against the world number 165 to progress into the
second round at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) clay court tournament taking place in Bad Gastein.
The Spanish rising star displayed tremendous skills to outshine Domachowska in almost one and a half hour in their third outing. The contestants previously battled each other at the Bogota WTA event four years ago and after earning this success, Suarez Navarro
not only took lead in the head-to-head series by 2-1 against the Pole but also secured a place in the round of 16.
The 23-year-old stormed into this WTA International-level tournament and drew the first blood in the opening game to take the initial lead. Apart from losing her following two serves and trailing at 1-3, Suarez Navarro stayed calm and recovered in the fifth
game. She held her remaining serves with poise and got the breakthrough in the ninth game, eventually registering a 6-4 success.
Suarez Navarro kept momentum floating into the proceeding set and earned the coveted break in the third game to put her nose ahead. She lost her serve in the very next game but capitalised on another break chance in the fifth game, subsequently taking a
4-2 lead. In spite of squaring the scores at 5-5, the Spaniard broke her rival’s serve once again and pulled out the set with a 7-5 score line.
Overall, the world number 38 took full advantage of the 11 double faults Domachowska coughed. She also clobbered a better first serve share of 56 per cent as compared to her rival’s 48 per cent and marked 24 out of 39 points on it.
Up next for Suarez Navarro is the Luxembourgian star, Mandy Minella, who tumbled over Croatia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets to set up this duel.
The seventh seed, Alize Cornet, also earned the glory later that day. She took down Romania’s Edina Gallovits-Hall in almost two hours to progress.
