Carles Puyol and Sergio Busquets on an undefeated run
The Spanish Champions Barcelona have been in outstanding form and since the last nine games they haven’t lost a single. Including all the competitions that they have been a part of, the Blaugrana Giants have managed to impress each and every football fan
around the world.
While being under their “outstanding” Catalan coach Josep Guardiola, Barcelona have triumphed over as many as 9 teams in a row this season. However, there is no doubt that the Spanish Giants would not have been able to accomplish any of this without their
extraordinary players like Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and company. There is no doubt that the three FIFA Ballon d’Or finalists play a crucial part in the midfield of the team but even amazing players like them have been defeated this season.
It is the underrated holding midfielder Sergio Busquets and the captain of the team Carles Puyol who are still to face defeat. The young FIFA World Cup winner Sergio Busquets is often under the radar of the football critics as he is usually not seen on the
pitch. However, it is his off-the-ball efforts that really help the team in winning. On the other hand, the way Carles Puyol handles the defensive walls along with his centre back partner Gerard Pique; it is simply fabulous to watch them both play. These two
have been very crucial for the Catalan Giants and they are still undefeated as Barcelona continue to impress and have not lost for the last 9 times. Not only have they managed to pull off draws and wins during this time round, their defensive lines have not
been cut even once and they have scored 23.
These two are not only great players, in fact they have showed great importance for Barcelona this season. Whenever the pair played together, their team always turned the tides and won the game. It is hard to show statistics to prove the contribution of
them for Barcelona but winning all the games for Barcelona simply shows how much they are needed to win games.
The Spanish national team won the FIFA World Cup 2010 right before the start of the season. With each and every player in the Spanish team coming back to training without a rest, it was obvious that Carles Puyol would get injured. After picking up a groin
injury during the pre-season campaign, the Spanish centre back was to be rested so he got the “well deserved.”
The Barcelona captain missed the matches against Racing and also the home game against Hercules in which the Blaugrana giants suffered a loss. Moreover, Puyol was not even a part of the game against Real Mallorca who were able to draw at the Nou Camp to
aid Real Madrid in going back on top.
On the other hand, the holding midfielder Sergio Busquets has been very crucial for Barcelona as well. He was never that appreciated while playing for the flawless Guardiola side but this season he has shown why he is so important for his team. He may not
be as famous as the Ballon d’Or finalists or other outstanding players who play for the Spanish Champion but he did show that he is equally important for Josep Guardiola.
The records book also point at his importance as the Barcelona home grown star has helped the Spanish Champions win each and every game in which he started. Whenever he was left on the bench, the Blaugrana Giants suffered a loss but whenever he started for
his team, they always won the game. Sergio Busquets was left on the bench while Barcelona were to face Hercules, Real Mallorca and Almeria. Even though Barcelona won the game 0-8 while being away from home to Almeria but at the Nou Camp, the Spanish Giants
only managed to take one point from Michael Laudrop’s Real Mallorca and the newly promoted Spanish La Liga side Hercules.
