Question:

Carless in Concord Mass. - Worth a trip?

I'll be visiting Boston in a week and I see that it's easy to get to Concord taking the commuter rail. It would drop me off at the station on 90 Thoreau St.

The thing is, I'll be on foot, and I wonder if there are enough sights close enough to the station to make a walking trip possible? Has anybody here ever done this?

Thanks for any advice :)

  1. I live in MA and Concord is very walker-friendly. Though I don't really find it all that interesting...there are many nice restaraunts, cafes, and shops annd easily acessible on foot. Concord's roads and sidewalks are mostly all Cobblestone anyway, which is just an invite to walk.

  2. Nearby destinations

    Concord Museum

    Minute Man National Historical Park

    Old North Bridge

    Walden Pond

  3. The Concord Museum, The Minute Man National Historical Park, The Old North Bridge, and Walden Pond are some attractions nearby the "T" (MBTA) station. Here are links for more info on each (including addresses):

And here is a link for the "T" stop at Thoreau Street including a map:

  4. In addition to what other Answerers tell you (lthough walden pond is a 4 mile or so schlep) there are homes of some of the Transcendentalist writers).

Have you thought to rent a bike whilst in Boston?  If so, you can take it onto the commuter rail.  Or check out renting one in Concord.

  5. I live in Concord and there are plenty of walking opportunities from the train station. Within a mile or so you can get to the North Bridge and other sites from the American Revolution as well as literary landmarks from the era of Thoreau, Emerson and Alcott. If you want to take a bit of hike, you can get to Walden Pond.

I am a licensed Town Guide and would be glad to meet you and show you around for a fee. I could even provide a bike in which case you could see even more in a shorter amount of time.

    Happy trails,
