Carling Cup: Conclusions from the Arsenal v Tottenham match- Part 1
Jack Wilshere was highly impressive on the night, but his performances were also highly worrying for the manager. It is now more than apparent that with the way the player was playing on the night. Wilshere had two assists and complete a total of a hundred
and thirty nine passes on the night, this meant that the player was making a pass every fifty two seconds. This also came without him picking up any injuries on the night despite being fouled more than ten times. His performance was truly world class on the
night, however the player needs to realize that instead of risking it all, he can also play it safe from time to time, otherwise his dedication might cost him a serious injury down the line in his career.
With Wilshere proving his worth on the night, a lot of critics were given a new story to reflect upon. With Wilshere proving he is more than capable at rolling with the big guns at Arsenal and Aaron Ramsey on the verge of making his return to first team
football, the critics are now considering the Fabregas situation.
Fabregas has proven over the last year that he is injury prone, he has already injured his hamstring five times, in the last thirteen months and chances are he will most probably injure them again in the future. Arsene Wenger still has an open bid from Barcelona
worth fifty million pounds for the player. Wenger can now actually reconsider the whole Fabregas situation after watching his youngsters play in last night’s game.
After last night’s performances, Kieran Gibbs is expected to be pushing the bar for the left back position at Arsenal. The young defender is also very close to over throwing Gael Clichy as Arsenal’s favoured left back. However the defender might have broken
a bone in his foot in the match and could potentially be the seventh Arsenal player to get injured this season.
Lukasz Fabianski has also proved once again, that he does not deserve to be a part of any professional football team, after last night’s atrocious performances. The goal that he let in at the White Hart Lane last night was the sixth that he let past him,
from seven shots. The keeper has already proved to be a thorn in the Arsenal side over the past. Previously the keeper has cost Arsenal's crashing out of the FA Cup, due to some terrible keeping in a semi-final clash. He has also proven to be utterly useless
when he has fielded for the team, in the Premier League and in the Champions League.
The keeper can’t catch the ball, can’t produce an occasional save and seems to even have difficulties when taking goal kicks. However Fabianski is not the only keeper to be performing under par for the team, Manuel Almunia over the years has also proven
to be a thorn in the team’s side. Arsenal’s first choice keeper might be having a decent start to the season this time around, however that does not change the fact, that the keeper has been utterly poor in the past.
This leads us to think, just how long is it going to take for Arsene Wenger to realize that there might be something wrong with his goalkeeping coaches. The team has had a number of poor keepers over the past and the fans feel it is about time the manager
got to the bottom of the problem. With all the keepers failing at the club, clearly the problem lies somewhere inside the coaching staff, who just aren’t getting it right when it comes down to the goal keepers.
