Carling Cup Fixture: Tottenham Hotspurs vs Arsenal full time report
After the full ninety minutes played between Arsenal and Tottenham, it was still all level with one goal to each side. Arsenal scored their only goal in fifteenth minute and Lansbury was the goal scorer.
Robbie Keane came on in the second half as a substitute and equalised for the Tottenham Hotspurs. It was a dubious goal as the Irish international was fractionally offside.
Both teams played really well till the end of the second half. Arsenal has been dominated most of the match by keeping possession. This tactic from the Gunners frustrates the opposition but Spurs showed their momentum as they remain very positive.
After ninety-minutes, two substitutions were made by the legendary Arsene Wenger. The Russian skipper, Andrea Arshavin, substituted the young Mexican Carlos Vela and the new signing Chamakh replaced the Gunners skipper, Tomas Rosicky.
Yet again, an impressive switch from the Gunners Boss, the newly replaced Arshavin played a through ball to Nasri inside the Spurs box. Nasri was able to hold on the ball but he was fouled by the Spurs centre back, Kyle Naughton, and earned a penalty kick
It was Tomas Rosicky, who missed the penalty at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland that would have sealed the game, but Arsenal conceded a late equaliser and claimed a single point only. But today it was Samir Nasri. He took the penalty successfully
by sending the goal keeper in the wrong direction. This penalty sealed the game for the Arsenal.
Despite having a one goal lead, Gunners were constantly putting pressure on the home team. It was a great passing display from Arsenal. They played short passes and their one-on-one and one-touch passing was totally out class.
Almost five minutes after the penalty, Chamakh and Arshavin played very good one-on-one passing game and Chamakh got into the Spurs box thanks to a pass from the Russian skipper.
Again Chamakh was fouled in the box and another penalty in five minutes was given. This time it was Sebastian Bassong who gave away the penalty.
Samir Nasri again stepped forward to take the penalty. He again sent the keeper to the wrong side. The ball went sliding through right at the bottom of the goal.
Arsenal was very vulnerable on the counter attack as always. It was not a new thing for a Gunners fans to see their team being so exposed in the back. Spurs tried to put pressure on the visitors and they came very close to scoring when David Bentley hit
the woodwork. It was an amazing cross from the English winger, Aaron Lennon, spot on, right on the target but Bentley failed to convert it for the Spurs.
With a two goal lead in the hands of Gunners, they still didn’t settle on their laurels and went for more. Yet again they were successful in finding the goal in the second half of extra time. Arshavin scored the last and final goal of the night to seal a
4-1 victory over their arch rivals Tottenham Hotspurs.
Finally, Arsene Wenger took revenge from Harry Redknapp for the last defeat when Arsenal lost a Premier League fixture at White Hart Lane.
Jack Wilshere, was the man of the match, with one assist to his name and for an overall brilliant passing display from the young English midfielder.
