Carling Cup Match Report: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 0 vs 2 Liverpool – Part 1
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 travelled to the Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in the Carling Cup, after having drawn with Manchester City just a couple of days ago.
Despite having played such a competitive game, the Reds were left with no choice as they had to play the Blues once again, after having faced them in the Premier League less than ten days ago.
However, with Liverpool already having beaten Chelsea in the Premier League, the team was looking to build on the confidence from that game, while looking to expose the weaknesses of the team, in order to get something out of the match.
Nonetheless, Chelsea were not going to let the team walk over them, as they were determined to prove their worth.
The match kicked off with Liverpool taking the game to the Blues, who seemed to be overwhelmed by the early pressure from the visitors.
In the 7th minute of the game, Enrique went on to cross a ball into the Chelsea area and Carroll seemed to be destined to head the ball. However, the player was pushed in the box, but the referee somehow refused to award the team with a penalty.
In the 20th minute, Enrique whipped in another cross, but this time around http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 went on to handle the ball in the area. Despite not awarding the penalty initially, the referee changed his mind and gave the visitors a spot kick.
Carroll stepped up to take the resulting kick, but went on to send his effort towards Turnbull, who made a brilliant save to keep his side in the contest.
In the stoppage time of the first half, Lukaku had a brilliant chance to score for Chelsea via a header, but the Belgian striker sent his effort sailing just wide of the mark.
As a result, the referee signalled the end of the first half, with both the teams being level at nil all.
Going into the break, both the teams managers seemed to be furious with their sides and were determined to get their players to produce a better performance in the second half.
