Carling Cup Match Report: Everton vs Chelsea – Part 1
Chelsea travelled to the Goodison Park in order to take on Everton in the Carling Cup. Both the teams were looking to try and get into the quarter final stage of the competition, as they looked to try and ensure themselves some form of silverware.
Chelsea and Everton had met on the 15th of October prior to their encounter last night. That game ended with the Blues picking up a three goals to one win over Everton and hence they were looking to repeat the same feat this time around.
However, after losing to QPR this past weekend Chelsea seemed to be feeling the pressure, while Everton were on top of things, having beaten Fulham this past weekend.
The match kicked off with Chelsea attacking the Everton goal and in just the 3rd minute, the team had their first goal scoring opportunity in the game. Malouda went on to play a pass to Lukaku and the young striker took a pop at goal, only to
see his effort hit the outside of the post instead.
In the 16th minute Heitinga took out McEachran inside the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 area and the referee pointed to the spot as he awarded Chelsea a penalty.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786 stepped up to take the resulting spot kick, but a rather tame effort from the forward sailed wide of the post and kept the score level at nil all in the game.
As the match progressed Everton tried to fight their way back into the game, but Chelsea seemed to be in top form as they countered the home side’s attacks, with some of their own.
In the 38th minute, the Blues went on to break the deadlock on the night, as they scored the opening goal of the game. After some find build up play from Chelsea, the ball was played forward to Kalou. The out of favour http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 striker went on
to try and chip the ball over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Mucha-c17787, in an attempt to try and confuse the keeper. However, despite his effort not being the best that he has ever had and it seeming like the keeper was easily  going to get to the ball, the ball inexplicably rolled into
the back of the net and all the fingers were now pointed at Mucha, who produced a howler.
Chelsea took the goal in their stride, as it gave them the confidence that they needed to see out the first half with the score card reading one goal to nil in favour of the Blues.
