Liverpool and Manchester City faced each other in the Carling Cup and following a two all draw, Liverpool went through to the next round, having had a one goal advantage from the first leg.
The match kicked off with Manchester City taking the game to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and after a spell where City dominated possession, they finally managed to open the scoring in the game.
In the 34th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Silva-c10601 and shifted the ball to his right. Despite being off balance, the midfielder went on to strike the ball from distance and sent his effort crashing into the back of the net, as he gave City the lead.
In the 42nd minute, Richards handled the ball in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. The ball hit the defenders leg and then his arm, but the referee still went on to award the Reds with a penalty kick.

In the second half, both teams kept the positive attitude that they established in the first half of the game, as they kept attacking each other.
City then went on to even things out in the 68th minute, as Edin Dzeko scored for the Manchester based team.
Kolarov went on to dart forward and then whipped in a powerful cross across the face of the goal. Dzeko went on to beat his marker and then prodded the ball into the back of the net from close range.
Just when it looked like City might just be able to make it through to the next round, Liverpool went on to score another goal in the game.
Bellamy combined with Johnson in the City area and after opening up his body, curled in a left footed effort past Hart and into the back of the net.
Following the goal, the match ended at two all, but with Liverpool already having a one goal lead from the first leg, they went on to secure a spot for themselves in the finals.
