Carling Cup Match Report: Stoke City vs Liverpool – Part 2
The second half kicked off with Liverpool looking to attack the Stoke goal immediately after the restart, but they just couldn’t string together the right passes to create that one move which would see them get level in the game.
In the 54th minute, all of that changed as Suarez scored the Reds equalizing goal in the game. The striker went on to beat Shotton via a nutmeg and then after creating space curled a brilliant effort into the far post, as he left Sorensen with
no chance of stopping his deadly shot. As it stood, Liverpool were now back in the game, as they looked to go all the way and pick up the win on the night.
As the match progressed, both teams started to cancel each other out and as a result, not many goal scoring opportunities were created after the goal that was scored by Suarez.
It wasn’t until the 85th minute that the next clear cut chance was created by either side. Bellamy combined with Carroll as he created space outside the Stoke box; as he then went on to curl the ball towards the far post. His effort was hit with
precision, but it just didn’t have the curl in it to find the back of the net, as it struck the wood work instead.
Just a few seconds later, it was Liverpool who finally scored the goal that would give them the lead in the game. Henderson whipped in a cross from the right hand side of the pitch and it was the Uruguayan forward Suarez once again, who zipped into the stoke
box, as he headed the ball into the back of the net.
As the match headed into stoppage time, Stoke threw all their men forward in hopes of taking the game into extra time and it seemed like they were capable of doing just that.
As the game drew to an end, Crouch went on to find himself within six yards of the goal, with the opportunity to find the back of the net. Despite the situation not favouring the striker, he could have done better, but ended up wasting his opportunity.
